Off-grid region
Off-grid power around Ballarat and the Western District.
West through the volcanic plains into grazing country, where the blocks get bigger and the wind gets serious.
The country
What Ballarat & the Western District asks of a system.
Out past Ballan and Beaufort the country opens up. Big paddocks, long driveways, and farmhouses a long way from the nearest transformer. Grid extension quotes on this sort of land are frequently the thing that starts the conversation.
The good news is that open country is easy country to generate in — very little shading, and plenty of room for a ground-mounted array oriented exactly where you want it. The catch is exposure: wind loading on the plains is real, and mounting systems need to be specified for it rather than assumed.
- Ground mounts engineered for genuine wind loading on exposed plains
- Farm loads — pumps, sheds, cool rooms — mapped before sizing anything
- Long cable runs between shed, house and array costed properly
- Very little shading, so array orientation can be optimised rather than compromised
