How this list is built

Public records, read every week

We read the ASIC company and business name registers, the ABN register, SolarQuotes installer reviews, the WhySolar and Solar Directory closure lists, Google business listings and each company's own website. Every fact on a company's page carries its source and the date it happened.

A company is Closed when a register says so (deregistered, under administration, its ABN cancelled) or two independent sources agree it has stopped. A single sign of trouble makes it At risk. A cancelled name with the same business still plainly trading is a restructure, not a closure: that business is listed as still trading.

The number of systems is an estimate from the company's own claims or its review count. Treat it as a size guide, not a count.

What the colours mean

  • Closed. The business has stopped trading: a register, Google or the industry's review sites say so.
  • Phoenix suspected. The old business failed, yet a business of the same name still trades in the same state. That can be a fresh start under new owners, or the same people under a new company.
  • At risk. One sign of trouble (a cancelled name or ABN, a dead website, a run of one star reviews) but not enough to call it closed.
  • Still trading. Open for business: Google, its own website or recent reviews show it trading. A cancelled old name or ABN beside a business that plainly trades on is a restructure, not a closure.

Something wrong about a business? Open its page and use Ask for a correction. We check every request and fix the page when the records support it.

Installer gone? We look after orphaned systems.

If the company that put in your solar or battery has closed, we can check the system, chase the manufacturer's warranty and keep it running.
